| Edirisa means a window in the language of the Bakiga, the people of Kabale in southwestern Uganda, where The Heart and The Home of Edirisa are located. During the first six years of our existence we presented ourselves as 'a window for the world to see Africa, and for Africa to see the world'. Our symbol was a window with one shutter inside and one outside - this window needed to be opened both from Africa and from the rest of the world. The original slogan breathe Africa, see Africa was linked to what a window provides (air and a view), but could as well be understood as a call to Africa to open its eyes. However, the window concept proved to be too abstract to some. In the beginning of 2007, we decided to instead define ourselves through our main work area - as 'a society for promoting Africa, creativity, cultures and practical skills'. | |
